Get Cash in Hand for Outfits You No Longer Wear
Of the hundreds of skirts, blouses, pants and dresses hanging in your closet, how many do you really wear from day to day? How many have you not worn in years? How may used to fit and you’re still hopeful?
What would it take for you to take your second hand clothes to a thrift shop? The promise of a tax deduction as a reward for donating your old clothes for cash? The prospect of a little extra room in what’s likely to be a pretty cluttered closet? What if you could meet the person who could really use your second hand clothes? Would that motivate you to move them on?

My rule: If I’m not wearing it, someone else could, and therefore it is morally *wrong* for me to keep things just because I want to. This approach guilts me into the give-away, thus it becomes easier to take clothes to the Sally Ann!
I love this post! I am constantly getting rid of unwanted items that I bought myself or that my friends passed on to me. One of the best rules that I’ve gone by is to get rid of anything that you have not used in the past year. Put everything on hangers (if possible) in your closet with the hangers facing backwards. Whatever you have not worn in the past year, which will be on a backwards hanger, is probably something you can part with. I have also noticed that it’s much easier to get dressed with fewer options!
This is so true! I probably purge my closet twice a year and end up donating a bunch of items that I haven’t worn in at least a year. I don’t know if there is necessarily one motivating factor, I feel like donating clothes is a win-win. I want to make more room in my closet, and at the same time I feel good about giving away items that I know would benefit others more then myself. One question that I have asked myself regularly when I am going through my closet is, even if I haven’t worn an item in a while is it worth keeping? Fashion trends come in and out of style these days, so should I keep something as opposed to buying it later on. Hypothetically speaking, bell bottom jeans are in style now but I donated all of mine because I didn’t wear them. Would it have been better to hold on to them, or buy a new pair now?
